Blur

via Daily Prompt: Blur

Life can go by like a blur. I remember when my kids were little. You take my son for example, I remember bringing him to his first kindergarten class. Then he graduated to go to first grade. I blinked, and like a blur, he graduated from 8th grade. He had started checking his height compared to mine. He couldn’t wait to reach my height. He got so excited when he did.

Then I blinked some more and like a blur, he was graduating from high school. I just couldn’t stop blinking. Time continued to go by like a blur. Before you know it, he was holding down good jobs and advancing in his career. He bought his first home.

I still couldn’t stop blinking. Life went on some more like a blur and he and his fiancé planned their wedding. Before you know it, I was on the dance floor with my married son dancing to, of all songs, “Don’t Blink” by Kenny Chesney. A couple more years went by and I now have a beautiful grandson who is now almost 1 years old. This photo is during football season when he was around 6 months old.

So my advice to all you young parents out there with babies and small children is “Don’t Blink”. Treasure your time with your little ones because before you know it, they will be grown and gone. Value every moment, from reading to them, playing games with them, taking them on errands with you, helping them with their school work, teaching them things, tucking them in at night and the list goes on.   Don’t Blink. Otherwise life will go by like a blur.
