How do you react when a day is not typical, filled with twists and turns? One day as I was driving to work, I passed a police officer parked on the side of the road. I passed him without any qualms since I felt I wasn’t doing anything wrong, like speeding. As I round the corner and make my way further up the road, I hear a siren. Seeing him behind me, I pull over to get out of his way. Instead of passing me by, he pulls in behind me.
Pulled Over By the Police
All kinds of thoughts start racing through my mind. “I know I wasn’t speeding. Did I run a light without realizing it?” I knew my inspection sticker had a few more days and my husband and I just spoke about getting that taken care of, so that wasn’t it. Then what could it be? This is a time I knew I needed to trust in God’s faithfulness due to His love for us. Lamentations 3:32 Though He causes grief, Yet He will show compassion according to the multitude of His mercies. As the officer neared my window, I looked at him with a puzzled look on my face to let him know, “I have no idea why you pulled me over.”, because I didn’t.
I was right. It wasn’t any of the above mentioned reasons. It was my registration that had expired. Normally my husband is on top of noticing this kind of thing, but our living situation, due to no choice of our own, which is another story for another blog, didn’t allow for this.
Fortunately, the officer was a reasonable man. Instead of having my car towed and giving me a ticket, which the whole ordeal would have cost at least around $400, he allowed me, on the spot, to look online on my phone and renew the registration immediately. He would’nt let me drive away until that was done. So, $60 later, I was on my way to my next client, late.
Only The Beginning
Now, normally, this wouldn’t be anything to write home about or in this case, blog about, but this day wasn’t over by a long shot. I finished my work day and a few hours later, went on my way home. I had just gotten on the highway and, a few minutes later, started to cross over a bridge. Suddenly, I spotted what the car in front of me just went over, what looked like a pothole with something sticking up out of it. In seconds I knew I couldn’t veer to the right due to there being no breakdown lane. On the left was a car, so that wasn’t an option. So I braced myself as I aimed both tires on either side of the pot hole. Suddenly, CRASH, BANG, CRUNCH! Then black soot started flying everywhere in the interior of my car. As the jolting started to calm down, I glanced to my right and noticed the passenger seat floor was popped up. Later, I was told If I hadn’t been alone, my passenger would have lost their knee caps or worse.
So I kept driving, figuring on getting home and assessing the damage. As I drove and was about halfway home, I started smelling oil. At this point, I was wondering if I was going to make it home, thankful I could even drive the car. As I entered the exit ramp to my home, I noticed there were a line of cars waiting for the traffic light to change. I knew stopping could be the death of my car. Sure enough as I took my place in line within seconds I felt the car go still. After several minutes, waiting for the light to change, I finally got to put my foot to the gas pedal and the car was dead. Whatever oil was leaking was finally spent.
His Angels Watched Over Me
After calling AAA and being towed to my mechanic, I was informed that I was lucky to be alive. I knew it wasn’t luck. I knew God had His angels watching over me. Are they not all ministering angels sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation. Hebrews 1:14

A Close Call
As I thought more about the accident, I knew this was true. If the flooring popped up on my side instead of the passenger side, I wouldn’t be sitting here writing this. If the collision made me veer in either direction other than straight, there could have been a several car pile up with many people hurt as well as me. So many ways this could have ended worse than my car becoming a total loss.
Out of curiosity my nephew drove me back to the sight to see what pot hole caused so much damage. To our surprise, there was no pot hole anywhere. What we figured out was that I hit a large piece of concrete that cast a shadow to make it look like something sticking up out of a pothole. The car in front of me was a higher riding vehicle, so they went right over it. My lower riding car got clobbered. Needless to say, God is not finished with me yet.
