It is always an encouragement to have quiet time with God. This is a time when we study His word and we pray. However, the business of life stops us from doing this on a regular basis. I’ve been told over the years that the best time to do this is in the morning. “You should do it first thing in the morning, so you’re giving Him of your first.” That meant if you worked, you needed to get up earlier to fit this in.
Reality Check #1
Of course, God sent His only begotten Son to die on the cross for us. John3:16 Isn’t that the least we can do? So for many years, I went by this premise of having my devotionals done in the morning. I failed miserably to my frustration. First of all, I’m not a “morning” person. I thrive later in the day. This system worked wonderfully on my days off. On my work days, I am usually running around, getting ready and racing out the door to get to work on time. Getting up any earlier usually turns me into a zombie, which is not giving God my best.
Reality Check #2
As time went on, I started to realize that one needs to put aside this time, 1 Samuel 12:24 Only fear the Lord, and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you.,but it doesn’t have to be in the morning. It needs to be at a time that is more suited to you getting the most out of this devotional time alone with God. Sometimes it may have to be a different part of the day each day. I don’t mean not having consistency. I mean that on your days off you may have this quiet time after your shower and getting dressed and on your work days after supper or after the kids are in bed. It can be very flexible when you pick, but you need to pick a time that works to become routine otherwise you will never get around to it. Many distractions will happen. All your good intentions will go down the drain.
Reality Check #3
In my situation, I figured out what to do on my days off. It was on my work days that became more complicated. Some people would say, “Oh, you need to have your devotional time with God the same time everyday.” Under that premise, I never had my quiet time with God. That works for non-working people but what about those of us who work. It can also get more complicated than that if you let it. On certain work days, I’m home for the night. In my case there are the work days that I’m running out the door to a meeting or other commitments. So these work days have to be handled differently. On the nights I do not have a commitment, I wait till the mad rush of supper is done and do my best to find a quiet spot and participate then. It’s the nights I have a commitment that I definitely still struggle with. At this stage, a person should be getting it down from every now and again to several times a week.

So then I started thinking I needed and desired a certain means to study the Bible. I looked around amazon and found the following book , “Quiet time for the busy woman.” Click below.
I ordered it, amongst other things and started using it. It uses a 6 week period on a daily basis except for Sundays since it probably figured you would be in church on those days. Follow it to start but if you are like me, you may find things still happen and you will end up skipping a day here or there. What I suggest is you keep going even if the days don’t match up because they eventually will again. So it obviously took me longer than 6 weeks but now I’m onto another book that I also recommend by Derick Prince, “Self study bible study guide” Click below
You can use anything you want. I just recommend using something that gets you into the Bible instead of the Bible. The more you learn and the more you have peace from this time, the more you’ll look forward to it.
